SeaLink publishes no fixed fare table for Waiheke: prices are quoted per sailing in its schedule and booking tool, and the vehicle price moves between sailings. Figures below come from SeaLink's schedule tool (checked September 2026) for summer-schedule sailings between Half Moon Bay and Kennedy Point from 19 October 2026 (one way); each sailing is priced separately and sailings with limited vehicle space cost more. The vehicle fare includes the driver only; every other occupant pays a passenger fare. A temporary fuel surcharge, 11.2% from 21 September 2026 and reviewed fortnightly, is added at booking on top of these prices. Standard vehicles are up to 5.5 m and 2 tonnes and can be booked online; large, oversize, campervan, trailer and caravan fares are phone bookings (09 300 5900). Waiheke residents who register get lower fares. SuperGold holders travelling on foot with a Gold AT HOP card travel free after 9 am on weekdays and all day at weekends and on public holidays; with a vehicle they pay the senior fare. SeaLink's online booking may not show the free fare before 9 am on a weekday public holiday; call 09 300 5900. Standard AT HOP adult fares are not listed by SeaLink. SeaLink, which calls itself the only vehicle and foot passenger service on the Gulf, runs the vehicle ferries to Kennedy Point, on Putiki Bay on the south side of the island, from two Auckland terminals: its own terminal at 37 Ara Tai Road in Half Moon Bay, east Auckland, and the Auckland City terminal at 56 Hamer Street in Wynyard Quarter. Half Moon Bay has most of the sailings and the shorter trip, 45 minutes on Seacat and about an hour on the slower Seabridge; Hamer Street has a handful of sailings a day, each around an hour. Foot passengers are carried too, but the passenger ferries to Matiatia are a separate Fullers360 and Island Direct service.
There is no longer a printed timetable. SeaLink shows sailings date by date in a schedule tool, and they change more than most ferry timetables: vessels are swapped, some slots show as cancelled, and extra sailings are added at short notice. From Half Moon Bay the tool showed eight weekday sailings in mid-October, rising to nine a day on the summer schedule that starts on 19 October 2026 and is open for booking to 2 May 2027.
Book ahead with a vehicle: without a booking you join a standby queue and board only if space is left, confirmed 15 minutes before departure. Standard cars, utes and vans up to 5.5 m and 2 tonnes can be booked online; anything heavier or longer, plus campervans, trailers and caravans, goes through SeaLink's phone line. Prices are quoted per sailing. On the summer schedule from 19 October a standard vehicle with its driver costs about $163 to $184 one way, depending on the sailing, and each extra adult from $30, before a temporary fuel surcharge that SeaLink reviews every two weeks. Registered Waiheke residents pay less.
SeaLink's terms ask all Waiheke passengers to check in at least 30 minutes before departure (its check-in page gives 20 minutes on foot), and an hour with a heavy vehicle. A traffic marshal directs cars into loading lanes, and boarding closes 20 minutes before sailing for vehicles. Some vessels are drive-on, drive-off; on others you reverse on. Kennedy Point is served by Waiheke bus 501 to Surfdale, Oneroa and Matiatia, and car-hire firms leave cars at the terminal.
- Be at the wharf a few minutes before departure; vehicle loading usually closes earlier than walk-on boarding.
- Check the operator's service updates on the day — wind, swell and tide cancel or shift sailings, especially on exposed routes.
- Check which card or ticket the route takes: Auckland Transport's AT HOP works on some ferries and not on privately run ones.
